Join Mark and Sicco for a challenging hike up Hellhole Canyon Trail and the California Riding and Hiking Trail. This hike has some of Anza-Borrego’s best scenery and will make you sweat! You’ll enter Hellhole Canyon and make your way above Maidenhair Falls, where the vegetation gets dense, then continue up through boulders, gravel, and sand.
The hike is an 8.6 mile loop with 2,400 feet of elevation gain, and should take approximately 6-7 hours. Some areas are moderate, and other areas contain very difficult off-trail loose rock slopes and boulder scrambling, bush whacking, and trail blazing.
Participants must be in good physical condition and able to travel off-trail in the desert over rough, uneven, and steep terrain. Please assess yourself honestly! We ask that anyone with medical conditions, such as bad knees, asthma, heart conditions, back problems, or medications that can’t be administered during the hike, please refrain from participating.
Each participant must be well-prepared with water, snacks, appropriate clothing and footwear, etc. Leaders have the right to turn away any participant that comes unprepared for the adventure.
Leaders will plan to be back at vehicles by 3:00pm, or earlier.
Capacity: Limited to 20 hikers
Note on bad weather: If the forecast calls for heavy rain, thunderstorms, or high winds, the hike will be cancelled and possibly rescheduled.
Cancellations: No refund on cancellations.
Advanced registration is required. Sign up online or call ABF at 760-767-0446 with questions or phone registration.
